There was a young boy by the name of Tom. His friend and his friend’s father decided to take him to Toys R’ Us. The father told Tom, “You can get any toy you want in this store. You choose.” At the time, Tom didn’t know his friend’s father was a millionaire. Even the most expensive gift wouldn’t have made a dent in his total earnings. Tom roamed the store and said to himself, “I know he said get anything, but if I get this really expensive toy, will he be able to pay for all his bills? If I get something really expensive, does it mean I am not walking in humility? If I get this high dollar item, will it keep him from getting other things he might want to buy?” With each thought, Tom talked himself out of several toys and consequently walked out with a $10 toy. He could have had the most expensive item in the store, but settled.
I share this story to say: It is so important to know God is not like that! I have encountered so many who say, “I am struggling with this or I’m dealing with that, but I will handle it on my own because God has more important things to tend to like world hunger, hurricanes, or teen suicide.” We say this as if God has a limited supply of answered prayers he’s reserved in giving. We say it as if we have to prioritize our own prayers because we might have to use the prayer card when something more urgent comes. We say it as if we don’t want to inconvenience God because our requests are “too small” or we are just one of billions of people on Earth.
As we continue to take this journey in walking out our purpose, we must know how BIG our God is. I love the scripture in Exodus that states, I am that I am. Simply put, if we need peace, He has that peace. If we need provision, He is that provider. If we need a smile, He is that joy. He doesn’t discriminate! He is what we need! I also love the scripture that reads, Cast all your cares on Him…not some of them, but all. He cares about every aspect of everything we do and all that makes us who we are. He has the ability to care for you and everyone else in this world. I don’t care if you lost an eyelash (lol). If it bothers you, it bothers him. Please take time to know the attributes of God, know how BIG he is, and realize that you and your dreams are a BIG deal to him. No request is too small. If Tom knew his friend’s father was a millionaire, I’m sure he would have walked in greater confidence and surety. Taking the time to know how deep God’s love is, how strong his protection is, and how profound and limitless his thoughts are toward you, will give you confidence and surety to pursue you dreams. Don’t settle. Don’t place a discount on what God wants to do through you. Get to know your creator and know how much He loves to meet your needs…even the smallest ones….even your dreams.
